Carse Natural Areas Summer Internship
|
The 2025 Summer Stewards at Carse Wetlands spent 10 weeks engaged in field data collection, species identification, and stewardship activities. Read about their summer projects below.
Invasive Honeysuckle Project In a continuation of the 2023-24 cohort's shrub-land experiment, this years summer interns continued monitoring the abundance and height of invasive honeysuckle and red osier dogwood. Read more about the original project here. Red Maple Regeneration Project Expanding on the project started by the 2023-24 cohort, this summer's interns recorded measures of understory plant diversity, red maple seedling height, and vegetative cover. Pollinator Restoration Project Continuing the pollinator surveys established by the 2024 summer stewards, this year's summer interns assessed pollinator diversity and nectar source availability using the VELCO Right of Way Tier 2 Pollinator Scorecard. Species Identification Building on the species identification resources produced by the 2024 summer stewards, this summer's interns expanded FREC's species occurrence list at Carse Wetlands. This group chose to focus particularly on identifying herbaceous plants, birdsong, and macro fauna. |
